CrazyEgg: Where Do Your Visitors Click?
This review is unpaid. I’m merely reviewing this application because of the invaluable benefits that it provided me in the redesign of truebluetitan.com. If you are interested in having me review your product please contact me here.
When designing a website layout think about your viewers:
- End Users (you)
- Search Engines
Today, we’ll address the former. There are various tools available to website designers to ensure that they dot all of their “i’s” and cross all of their “t’s”, but one of the applications that I always come back to is CrazyEgg.
Where Are Your Users Clicking?
CrazyEgg can be summed up as click-tracking software that provides website designers and administrators with various ways of tracking the actions of their site’s visitors. There are analytic packages out there that provide detailed information about your visitors, but they do not convey the behavioral data of where your visitors are clicking, or rather, where they are not clicking.
Plans
If this is the first time that you’ve heard of CrazyEgg then I strongly suggest that you sign up for their free plan and stop missing out. While the free version does not have all of the features of the other plans, you’ll soon gain an understanding of just how valuable this app really is. Once you’re hooked, the 4 pay plans can easily accommodate your high-traffic sites.
Each plan, including the free plan, has 4 statistical reporting methods that provide valuable insight into your users and what they’re up to on your site.

Heatmap
The Heatmaps are my favorite. Perhaps it’s because I’m a visual person, but it provides instant insight into what’s hot and what’s not on your website.
Overlay
Overlay gives you the ability to view the number of clicks each link is getting as well as see what percent of your total clicks each link gets.
List
List provides the same information (clicks and percentage) as Overlay, but displays it in a tabular manner. This is PC guy’s wet dream.
Confetti
The newest feature of CrazyEgg is Confetti, a graphical system that enables you to see what traffic converts. Do you have an Ad that you think does well with some traffic, but not others? Confetti will confirm it. Do you want to know where the traffic from your top 15 Referrers goes? That’s confetti too!
Additional Features
Outside of the 4 core features, there’s additional functionality that makes it a valuable app:
- There’s probably more people than you that wants to see the results of your tracking. Share them with your clients and superior.
- Do you care where you’re clicking if you’re the site designer or administrator? No! So block your IP and stop wasting valuable time tracking your movement.
- Get notified. Stay informed via email or your RSS feeder.
- Pony up the dough and pay to find out the results of your tracking live. If not, you’ll have to wait up to 6 hours to get the lowdown.
If you have tried CrazyEgg then I would love to hear your opinion on the product. If you have not, then what are you waiting for? Sign up today!

Rob,
Thanks for the great post! I’m really glad to hear that CrazyEgg was helpful in your re-design. Looks great.
Hmmmmm…reminds me of Google analytics… :P
I’m almost sold on CrazyEgg. I’ve seen ads for months but only recently read reviews that the service really is as good as it says. Thanks.
