Displaying Full Articles
Last month I asked you what you would like to see on the home page of Truebluetitan.com. At that time I was displaying an excerpt from each article on the home page and you had to click on the article heading to view the full article.
Today, I decided to see what kind of affect displaying the full articles on the home page would have. So, (for now) you won’t have to click the header to read the full article.
Like it/love it/hate it? Let me know!

From a viewing perspective, I thought the headlines looked better, but from a search engines perspective, you are much more optimized with full posts.
I vote for going back to the old system. Having full articles makes your front page look too cluttered, and it’s hard to see earlier posts unless they’re short enough.
I’ve gotten where I like the digest form on the front page of a blog. I recently switched to a magazine style theme and people seem to like it better than my old theme.
When I started my blog recently, I read up and wondered about this to. In the end I went for excerpts everywhere except on the single page. I did this for the SEO and the pages would load faster. Personally I like the digest form on the front page.
It will be interesting to see if your rss subs inc/dec as a result, but then you would have to run the experiment for a while.
Thank you for all of your feedback. The readers have spoken and the front page is now back to the excerpt version.
I am against only excerpts of articles. I think that you really should keep the full content of your blog viewable.
And if you are keeping your blog with excerpts put a read more button on each article so users can easily navigate.
My $.02
I dig the excerpts much better especially if you write them which you always do. I never take the time to do so, so I don’t use them. I wish I would, call it just being plain lazy.
I like the excerpt version better. Its cleaner , and if you want to read more you click on it.
I am sure it helps out with page impressions. I changed my setup in blogger to expandable posts, and I saw my page impressions about double over just a few days.
As a viewer, I am okay with either full article or excerpt. ;)
